1-2-3-Nul! EP

Released in March 2003, the 1-2-3-Nul! EP serves as the definitive early manifesto for Sunderland's The Futureheads. Predating their self-titled debut album, these four tracks showcase a band already in full command of their 'art-punk' aesthetic. The EP is characterized by its brevity and intensity, with 'Ticket' clocking in at well under two minutes. Sonically, it is defined by the interplay between Ross Millard and Barry Hyde’s angular, non-linear guitar parts and the band's signature four-part vocal harmonies. This vocal approach, influenced by Hyde's interest in choral music, set them apart from contemporaries like Franz Ferdinand or The Libertines. The EP includes 'A Picture of Dorian Gray', a track that would become a live staple, demonstrating their ability to weave literary references into high-energy rock.
