Released in late 2020, A Thousand Clouds serves as a concise distillation of Emancipator's (Douglas Appling) signature sound. Following the full-length Mountain of Memory, this EP reinforces his position as a leader in the downtempo and trip-hop revival space. The project is characterized by its high-fidelity production and the seamless integration of live instrumentation - specifically violin and acoustic guitar - with electronic beats. Unlike some of his earlier, more lo-fi leaning work, this EP features a crystalline digital clarity that emphasizes the intricate layering of synths and field recordings.
