Amours propres is a striking document of a musician shedding his skin. Following the dissolution of the punk outfit Starshooter, Kent (Hervé Despesse) re-emerged in 1983 with a sound that was far more sophisticated, skeletal, and rhythmically adventurous. The album exists in the tension between the directness of rock and the spacious, experimental textures of dub and leftfield electronics. It feels like a late-night walk through a city that is both familiar and alienating, where the streetlights reflect off wet pavement and every shadow holds a bit of poetic residue.

Moments Worth Listening For
The moment the dry, punk-adjacent guitar riffs suddenly dissolve into a cavernous dub-style echo chamber.
The transition from a cynical, spoken-word verse into a surprisingly melodic and vulnerable chorus.
The prominent, driving bassline that anchors the track while minimalist synths flicker in the background.
