Released in 2012, Anastasis marked the first studio collaboration between Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard in sixteen years. The title, Greek for 'resurrection,' reflects both the band's return and the album's thematic focus on the cycles of life, death, and rebirth. Sonically, the album leans heavily into Byzantine and Mediterranean influences, utilizing Phrygian dominant scales and traditional instruments like the bouzouki and yangqin, often augmented by large-scale MIDI orchestral libraries.
