Angels

Released in 2014, Angels is a significant stylistic departure for Romanian producer Edward Maya. Following the massive commercial success of 'Stereo Love' and 'This Is My Life,' Maya utilized this 16-track project to explore his interests in spirituality and meditation. The album is structured as a series of 'Angels,' each representing a different virtue or state of being (e.g., Love, Healing, Intuition). Sonically, the record moves away from Eurodance and House, instead embracing New Age, Ambient, and Progressive Trance influences. The production is characterized by heavy use of choral synthesis, long-tail delays, and a lack of traditional percussion, placing it firmly in the category of functional meditation music. Despite its departure from his radio-friendly sound, the album retains Maya's signature sense of romanticism and melodic warmth, though presented here in a much more abstract and expansive format.
