Audiobullys EP

Released in July 2002, the Audiobullys EP acts as a foundational document for the duo of Simon Franks and Tom Dinsdale. Coming out just before their landmark debut 'Ego War', this EP established their signature 'hooligan house' sound - a term coined to describe their fusion of house music's rhythmic drive with the lyrical grit and vocal delivery of UK street culture. The tracks are notably longer than their later radio-friendly hits, with 'Hit the Ceiling' clocking in at nearly eight minutes, showcasing a more experimental, club-focused approach to structure. The use of deadpan, spoken-word vocals over aggressive breakbeats and house loops was a significant departure from the melodic vocal house prevalent at the time. Critical reception highlighted their ability to bridge the gap between the indie-rock attitude and the electronic dance floor, positioning them alongside the burgeoning electroclash movement while maintaining a distinctly British identity.
