Beat Tape 3

Released in August 2024, Beat Tape 3 is the third installment in Kordhell's influential series of short-form releases. As a key figure in the global drift phonk movement, Kordhell uses this EP to further refine the aggressive, high-octane sound that has earned him a massive following. The album consists of six tracks, each clocking in around the two-minute mark, a structure that mirrors the fast-paced, social-media-driven consumption of the genre. Sonically, the EP is a masterclass in the 'drift' aesthetic: heavily distorted cowbell leads, side-chained 808s that 'pump' the entire mix, and vocal samples often drawn from vintage Memphis rap tapes, chopped and pitched down for a dark, atmospheric effect. Critically, the Beat Tape series is seen as a foundational element of the modern phonk scene, helping to transition the sound from underground SoundCloud circles to mainstream electronic music charts.
