Black Dots is the sound of a revolution being born in a basement. Recorded in 1979 but unreleased for nearly two decades, these tracks capture Bad Brains before they were legends, when they were simply four virtuosos from D.C. rewriting the rules of what music could do. The production is thin and gritty, but that lack of polish only serves to highlight the terrifying speed and precision of the performances. It feels less like a record and more like a live wire, sparking with an intensity that threatens to blow out your speakers.

Moments Worth Listening For
The jarring transition where the breakneck punk of 'Don't Need It' suddenly collapses into the spacious, bass-heavy skank of a reggae breakdown.
H.R.'s piercing, bird-like shrieks at the start of 'Pay to Cum,' capturing a level of raw desperation missing from later studio takes.
The audible room hiss and drum stick clicks before the band launches into 'The Regulator' with terrifying, synchronized velocity.
