Black Magic

Released in March 2008, Black Magic serves as a pivotal early document for Miniature Tigers, bridging the gap between Charlie Brand's solo beginnings and the band's full-length debut, Tell It to the Volcano. This four-track EP established the 'miniature' aesthetic: short, punchy pop songs built on a foundation of acoustic guitars and vintage synths, decorated with intricate chamber-pop arrangements like glockenspiels and stacked harmonies. Sonically, it is much more lo-fi than their subsequent studio albums, characterized by a 'bedroom' production quality that emphasizes tape saturation and intimate vocal delivery.
