Blanket Warm

Released in 1996, Blanket Warm is the debut album from Lullaby for the Working Class, a project led by multi-instrumentalist Ted Stevens (later of Cursive) and Mike Mogis. The album is a foundational text for the 'chamber folk' movement, predating the mainstream explosion of similar sounds by nearly a decade. Recorded in Lincoln, Nebraska, it helped establish the sonic identity of the burgeoning Saddle Creek scene, though its sound was far more pastoral and orchestral than the label's later emo-adjacent output. The record is notable for its sophisticated arrangements, utilizing a wide array of instruments including cello, trumpet, and vibraphone, all while maintaining a hushed, lo-fi intimacy. Critics at the time praised its 'authentic rural sound' and its ability to evoke the vastness of the Great Plains.
