Blood

Released in 2018, Blood is the second studio album by Rhye, following their breakout debut Woman. While the debut was a collaborative effort between Mike Milosh and Robin Hannibal, Blood marks a transition into a more solo-driven project for Milosh, supported by a live touring band. This shift is reflected in the album's more organic, 'live' sonic character, moving away from the electronic-leaning production of their earlier work toward a sound rooted in sophisticated soul and chamber pop. Recorded largely at Milosh's home studio and various locations in Los Angeles, the album explores themes of intimacy, transition, and the physical sensation of love. Critics noted that while it maintains the signature Rhye aesthetic - breathless vocals and minimalist arrangements - it introduces more complex instrumentation, including prominent cello and piano, and occasional nods to disco and funk. It solidified Rhye's position as a leader in the 'sophisti-pop' and alternative R&B revival of the late 2010s.
