A clinical yet warm exploration of the Buchla 100 modular system. Jagged sequences and erratic voltages replace the club dancefloor with a laboratory of sound.
February 13, 2020 · Boysnoize Records
Buchla 100 is a radical departure from the high-octane, distorted electro-house that defined the early career of Boys Noize. Instead of seeking to overwhelm the listener with volume and aggression, this release invites a deep, microscopic focus on the textures of pure synthesis. It sounds like a conversation between a human and a very old, very sophisticated machine. There is a tactile, physical quality to the sounds: you can almost feel the electricity surging through the patch cables and the heat radiating from the vacuum tubes. It is a record that rewards patience and high-quality speakers, as the most interesting moments happen in the subtle shifts of timbre and the unexpected decay of a single note.
