Released in May 2012 on Run For Cover Records, this split EP is a seminal document of the 'Run For Cover' sound that defined a generation of independent rock. At the time of release, both Citizen and Turnover were emerging from a more traditional pop-punk background, but this release signaled a pivot toward a grittier, more emotionally complex style often categorized as 'soft-grunge' or 'emo-revival.' Citizen's side is marked by Mat Kerekes' signature vocal intensity and heavy, brooding riffs that would later be perfected on 'Youth.' Turnover's side shows the band in a much more aggressive state than the dream-pop sound they would eventually adopt on 'Peripheral Vision,' featuring driving tempos and melodic hardcore influences. The production is intentionally raw, favoring energy and impact over sonic perfection. Historically, it remains one of the most sought-after 7-inch records in the genre's modern era, representing a lightning-in-a-bottle moment before both bands achieved massive underground success.
