Creatures

Released in 2010 via Fearless Records, Creatures is the debut full-length from Scranton, Pennsylvania's Motionless in White. Produced by Andrew Wade, the album arrived at the height of the 'scenecore' era but distinguished itself through a heavy infusion of gothic and industrial influences that most of its peers lacked. The record is heavily thematic, drawing lyrical inspiration from horror cinema (The Lost Boys, Edward Scissorhands) and historical events (The Salem Witch Trials), as well as fan-submitted lyrics for the title track. Musically, it bridges the gap between the technical aggression of Bleeding Through and the theatrical synth-work of Eighteen Visions. It was a commercial success for the label and solidified the band's 'Creature' fanbase. Critics noted its ambitious scope and the band's ability to balance melodic accessibility with genuine heaviness, marking it as a pivotal release in the evolution of gothic-influenced metalcore.
