Released in late 2022, Daft Pomp represents a full-circle moment for Pomplamoose, a duo that rose to prominence through inventive 'videosong' covers. This project focuses entirely on the catalog of French electronic pioneers Daft Punk, reimagining their synth-heavy, sample-based anthems through a lens of live instrumentation and indie-pop intimacy. The recording maintains the band's 'dry and close' production philosophy, eschewing heavy reverb for a crisp, immediate sound. Musically, the album leans heavily into funk and nu-jazz, featuring prominent slap bass, Rhodes-style keys, and Nataly Dawn’s signature breathy vocals. Notably, the album includes ambitious mashups, such as 'Blue + Around the World,' which highlights the duo's knack for finding harmonic commonalities across disparate pop eras.
