Detonator

Detonator represents a pivotal and final chapter for Ratt's classic era. Released in 1990, it saw the band attempting to adapt to a changing musical climate by enlisting hitmaker Desmond Child as a consultant and co-writer. This resulted in a more melodic, 'pop-metal' sound compared to the raw aggression of Out of the Cellar. Sonically, the album is a masterpiece of late-era hair metal production, featuring dense vocal harmonies and a massive drum sound. It is historically significant as the final album to feature founding guitarist Robbin Crosby before his departure and subsequent passing. While it didn't reach the multi-platinum heights of their mid-80s peak, tracks like 'Lovin' You's a Dirty Job' and 'Shame Shame Shame' proved the band could still deliver top-tier hard rock. The album effectively bridges the gap between the sleazy glam of the 80s and the more refined studio rock of the early 90s.
