Dionysus

Released in 2018, Dionysus marks a significant conceptual shift for Dead Can Dance, moving away from the more traditional song structures of 2012's Anastasis toward a through-composed oratorio format. Brendan Perry spent years collecting field recordings for the project, including the sounds of goats in the Swiss mountains and birds in the Mexican rainforest, which provide the album's atmospheric backbone. The record is a thematic exploration of the Dionysian mysteries, focusing on the dual nature of the Greek god as a bringer of both joy and madness.
