Disappear

Released in late 2006 as an iTunes-exclusive EP, Disappear serves as a companion piece to My Brightest Diamond's debut album, Bring Me the Workhorse. The EP is significant for highlighting the collaborative relationship between Shara Worden and James McAlister, both of whom were members of Sufjan Stevens’ touring band. Sonically, the EP pushes the project's 'chamber pop' label to its literal limit, featuring a formal string quartet arrangement of the title track that strips away the original's rock instrumentation. This version emphasizes Worden's background in classical composition and opera. The inclusion of 'The Lace Handkerchief' provides a rare, stripped-back b-side that leans into a gothic-folk aesthetic. The remixes by Stakka and McAlister represent the project's early flirtations with electronic textures, a direction that would become more prominent in later releases. It remains a crucial document of Worden's versatility as an arranger and vocalist.
