Disconnected

Released in 2007, Disconnected is a monumental collaboration between Faust (represented here by founding members Jean-Hervé Péron and Zappi Diermaier) and Steven Stapleton of Nurse With Wound. Recorded at Stapleton's Cooloorta studio in Ireland, the album serves as a masterclass in the 'studio as instrument' philosophy. While Faust provides the foundational 'Zappi' beat and Péron's distinctive vocal presence, Stapleton applies his signature surrealist editing and sound-collage techniques. The result is a series of long-form tracks that average over ten minutes, allowing textures to mutate and decay in real-time. Critically, the album was seen as a return to form for Faust, moving away from more conventional rock structures and back toward the radical experimentation of their early 1970s output. It stands as a bridge between generations of experimental music, blending Krautrock's rhythmic persistence with industrial music's abrasive textures.
