Dish of the Day

Released in late 1995, Dish of the Day catapulted the German quintet Fool's Garden from regional obscurity to international stardom, primarily on the strength of the single 'Lemon Tree'. Recorded at Hinkelstone Studio, the album represents a peak in the 'German Britpop' movement, where continental bands adopted the melodicism of the Beatles and the swagger of Oasis but infused it with a more introspective, often melancholic lyrical perspective. While 'Lemon Tree' became a global chart-topper, tracks like 'Ordinary Man' and 'The Seal' reveal a band deeply interested in existential themes and complex vocal arrangements.
