Dru Hill

Dru Hill's self-titled debut, released in 1996, served as a pivotal moment in the evolution of male R&B groups. While their contemporaries often leaned into a softer, more pop-oriented sound, Dru Hill brought a technical vocal aggression rooted in the Black gospel tradition. Produced largely by Keith Sweat and Darryl Simmons, the album is a sonic bridge between the New Jack Swing era and the more minimalist Hip Hop Soul that would dominate the late 90s. The record was a commercial juggernaut, spawning several Top 10 hits including 'Tell Me' and 'In My Bed'.
