End of the World

End of the World is the debut EP from the band that would soon rename themselves Kreator (originally released under the name Tormentor). Recorded in 1984, it serves as the foundational text for the German thrash metal scene. While the band would later achieve global fame with 'Pleasure to Kill', this EP showcases a more primitive, speed-metal-influenced sound. The recording is notable for its lo-fi production, which adds a layer of grit and authenticity often missing from modern metal. It features early versions of tracks that would become staples of their live set, most notably 'Tormentor'. Critically, it is viewed as a bridge between the NWOBHM-influenced speed metal of the early 80s and the more extreme thrash and death metal styles that would emerge shortly after. It remains a cult favorite for its raw energy and historical significance in the evolution of extreme music.
