Escape Angle marks a significant pivot for This Will Destroy You, moving away from the wide-eyed, sky-gazing crescendos of their earlier work and into a much darker, more claustrophobic urban landscape. It is a track defined by its relentless, motorik-adjacent pulse and a thick layer of synthetic grit. The guitars, which once soared, are now often used as textural tools, providing friction and drone against a backdrop of heavy, distorted bass and glitchy percussion. It feels less like a landscape and more like a machine room at midnight.
