Released in late 2015, Escapism served as a definitive statement for Sam Gellaitry, then a rising prodigy of the Glasgow electronic scene. While his earlier work on SoundCloud hinted at his potential, this EP solidified his aesthetic: a maximalist fusion of trap, future bass, and cinematic sound design. The project is characterized by its 'crystalline' high-end and 'wonky' rhythmic structures, drawing influence from the likes of Hudson Mohawke and Rustie but adding a unique, almost baroque melodic sensibility. Across five tracks, Gellaitry moves from the aggressive, prowling energy of 'Hyena' to the more expansive, atmospheric textures of 'Rurality.'
