Exile in Guyville

Released in 1993 on Matador Records, 'Exile in Guyville' is a landmark of indie rock and a cornerstone of the 90s alternative movement. Conceived as a track-by-track response to the Rolling Stones' 'Exile on Main St.', Liz Phair used the structure of the classic rock double album to interrogate the 'Guyville' of the Chicago indie scene. Recorded with producer Brad Wood at Idful Music Corporation, the album’s sound is defined by its lo-fi aesthetic and Phair’s distinctive 'Girly-Sound' demo origins.
