Fear Inoculum

Released in 2019 after a legendary thirteen-year hiatus, Fear Inoculum represents the final evolution of Tool's progressive metal philosophy. The album is characterized by its extreme track lengths, with nearly every song exceeding the ten-minute mark, and a production style that emphasizes extreme dynamic range and analog warmth. Recorded primarily to tape with producer Joe Barresi, the album eschews modern digital compression in favor of a natural, breathing soundstage. This record is notable for its shift toward more 'spiritual' and 'mathematical' themes, moving away from the more visceral, psychological horror of their 90s output. It features some of Danny Carey's most complex work, utilizing a massive array of electronics and tabla-style percussion.
