Fly

Released in 1995, Fly is the second collaboration between Sarah Brightman and producer Frank Peterson, following their work on Dive. While Dive explored a more ambient, underwater aesthetic, Fly is a sharper, more aggressive foray into pop, rock, and electronic textures. It is historically significant for containing 'A Question of Honour', the track that effectively blueprinted the 'classical crossover' sound by blending an aria from Catalani's La Wally with a dance-beat and rock guitars. This album moved Brightman away from her musical theater roots and established her as a global pop entity capable of topping charts outside of the West End. The recording is characterized by Peterson's signature Enigma-esque production: heavy reverb, choral samples, and a cinematic scope. It features guest appearances from Tom Jones and Chris Thompson, further cementing its status as a high-profile pop project rather than a traditional classical recital. Critically, it is seen as a bold, if occasionally eccentric, experiment that successfully bridged the gap between high art and commercial pop radio.
