Forever Free

Released in 1992, Forever Free represents a transitional yet confident period for Saxon. Following the success of 'Solid Ball of Rock,' the band continued to move away from the experimental gloss of their mid-80s output and back toward their heavy metal roots, albeit with a more melodic, hard-rock edge suitable for the era. Recorded at Hey You Studios in Vienna, the album features the classic lineup of Byford, Quinn, Oliver, Dawson, and Glockler. A notable highlight is 'Iron Wheels,' a poignant tribute to Biff Byford's father and the coal mining industry, which showcases a rare vulnerability in the band's catalog. The album also includes a cover of Willie Dixon's 'Just Wanna Make Love to You,' signaling the band's deep-seated blues influences. While it arrived during the height of the grunge movement, Forever Free maintained Saxon's relevance among the metal faithful by doubling down on their 'biker metal' identity and high-quality production values.
