Freedumb

Released in 1999, Freedumb marked a significant return to the high-speed hardcore punk sound that initially defined Suicidal Tendencies in the early 1980s. After a period of exploring funk-metal and more commercial alternative sounds, Mike Muir reconstituted the band with a lineup featuring Mike Clark, Dean Pleasants, and a young Brooks Wackerman on drums. This iteration of the band focused on 'thousand-mile-an-hour' guitar assaults, as noted by CMJ New Music Report. The album is notable for its inclusion of 'Cyco Vision,' which gained massive cultural traction through its appearance in the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video game. While some critics at the time found the return to basics regressive, the album has since been vindicated as a high-water mark for late-90s hardcore, even earning a spot in Rock Hard magazine's list of the 500 greatest rock and metal albums.
