Released in 1994, 'From the Cradle' represents a pivotal moment in Eric Clapton's career, marking his first full-length studio commitment to traditional blues covers. Following the massive success of 'Unplugged', Clapton used his commercial capital to record an uncompromising tribute to his influences, including Otis Rush, Muddy Waters, and Elmore James. The recording process was famously rigorous: Clapton and his band recorded over 50 takes of certain songs to capture a 'live' feel without the use of overdubs or digital correction. This purist approach resulted in a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album.
