Genesis

Genesis is the debut full-length from Job for a Cowboy, released in 2007 on Metal Blade Records. It represents one of the most significant stylistic shifts in 21st-century extreme metal, as the band moved away from the 'deathcore' sound they helped popularize with their Doom EP in favor of a more traditional, technical death metal approach. Lyrically, it is a concept album exploring themes of the Book of Revelation and the VeriChip, creating a paranoid, apocalyptic narrative. The album was a massive commercial success for the genre, debuting at #54 on the Billboard 200. It features the final performances of founding guitarist Ravi Bhadriraju and drummer Elliot Sellers, whose technical contributions set a new bar for the band. Critics at the time, including those from AllMusic and Blabbermouth, noted the band's improved songwriting and musicianship, often citing the album as a bridge that brought younger metalcore fans into the broader death metal fold.
