Grave Disorder

Released in 2001, Grave Disorder marked a significant return to form for The Damned, being their first studio album in six years and the first to feature founding member Captain Sensible since 1982's Strawberries. This lineup change signaled a return to the band's more eclectic, psychedelic-influenced punk sound. The album was released on Nitro Records, the label owned by Dexter Holland of The Offspring, which helped introduce the band's veteran gothic-punk style to a new generation of West Coast punk fans. Sonically, the album is characterized by Dave Vanian's mature, operatic baritone and the Captain's inventive, often surf-inflected guitar work. Lyrically, it moves away from pure fantasy into biting social commentary on the digital age and political hypocrisy, particularly on tracks like 'Democracy?' and 'song.com'.
