Greased

Released in 1997 on No Idea Records, Greased is a conceptual cover EP where Less Than Jake reimagines eight songs from the musical Grease. Arriving between their breakout album Losing Streak and the polished Hello Rockview, this EP captures the band at their creative peak in terms of speed and brass integration. Unlike many novelty cover projects, Greased is highly regarded for its technical execution; the brass arrangements are complex and central to the melodies, rather than being mere window dressing. The recording retains the warm, slightly gritty analog feel of their early Gainesville years while showcasing the tight musicianship that made them leaders of the third-wave ska movement. It remains a cult favorite in their discography, often cited as one of the best examples of the 'punk goes...' cover trend before it became a commercialized industry staple.
