Happy

Released in 1975, 'Happy' stands as one of Labi Siffre's most cohesive and rhythmically driven studio efforts. Following the success of his early 70s output, this album saw Siffre leaning further into soul and funk influences while maintaining his signature 'gentle' folk-poet persona. The production is a masterclass in mid-70s analog warmth, featuring the dry, punchy drum sounds that would later make Siffre a favorite for hip-hop producers (most notably Jay-Z and Eminem, though they sampled other works, the DNA is here).
