Harmony

Released in 2015, Harmony represents a radical sonic pivot for Danish artist Vinnie Who (Niels Bagge). Following the high-energy disco and electropop of his debut and sophomore efforts, this third studio album strips away the neon artifice in favor of a psych-folk and dream-pop aesthetic. Recorded with a focus on analog warmth and organic textures, the album trades drum machines for hand-played percussion and synthesizers for acoustic guitars and Rhodes piano. This shift was initially a surprise to the Danish music scene, which had categorized Bagge as a disco revivalist. However, Harmony was praised for its cohesion and the way it utilized Bagge's signature androgynous falsetto in a more vulnerable, intimate context. The track 'Mymia' serves as the album's centerpiece, showcasing a move toward longer, more experimental song structures. It remains a distinct, sun-bleached outlier in his discography.
