Hearing Colors

Released in 2013, Hearing Colors represents a pivotal early moment in the career of Filipino artist Eyedress (Idris Vicuña). While his later work would lean more heavily into post-punk and surf rock, this album is a masterclass in sample-based electronic experimentation and bedroom production. Recorded during a period of intense creative isolation in Manila, the record reflects the city's chaotic yet somber energy. It draws heavily from the 'Leftfield' and 'Downtempo' traditions, but filters them through a distinctly lo-fi, DIY lens that predates the mainstream explosion of 'lo-fi beats'.
