Heaven Inc.

Released in late 2020, Heaven Inc. serves as a bridge between the apocalyptic industrialism of Shlohmo's 2019 LP 'The End' and a more introspective, textural approach to downtempo. While only four tracks long, the EP showcases Henry Laufer's mastery of mood-setting through extreme audio degradation. The title track sets the tone with its slow-motion beat and pitch-unstable synths, while 'Looking at Plants' offers a brief, almost pastoral respite. 'Misanthrope' leans into the more aggressive, distorted side of his palette, featuring rhythmic elements that sound like machinery failing in slow motion. The EP was released as a limited 7-inch single, emphasizing its status as a boutique, highly curated sonic artifact. Critically, it was noted for its ability to maintain Shlohmo's 'murky' aesthetic while introducing a slightly more melodic, albeit still haunted, sensibility compared to his previous full-length work.
