Hellogoodbye

Released in late 2004, the self-titled Hellogoodbye EP served as a foundational text for the 'neon' era of pop-punk and indie-pop. While many of their contemporaries in the Drive-Thru Records scene were leaning into distorted guitars and angst, Forrest Kline utilized a laptop, various synthesizers, and a drum machine to create a sound that was closer to The Postal Service than New Found Glory. The EP's production is famously DIY, characterized by a bedroom-pop aesthetic that predated the genre's mainstream explosion by over a decade. It features the fan-favorite 'Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn' and two versions of 'Bonnie Taylor Shakedown,' showcasing the band's penchant for playful, repetitive hooks. The closing track, 'Dear Jamie... Sincerely Me,' is a notable departure, stretching over eight minutes and incorporating acoustic elements that hinted at the band's future evolution toward more organic indie-pop. It remains a cult classic of the MySpace era.
