In the Forest of the Dreaming Dead

Released in 1993 on the legendary No Fashion Records, Unanimated's debut is a seminal work in the development of the Swedish melodic death metal scene. While often overshadowed by their peers in Dissection, this album is arguably just as influential in pioneering the 'blackened' approach to death metal. Recorded during a period of intense creativity in the Stockholm scene, the album features contributions from members of Dismember and Tiamat, cementing its status as a collaborative peak of the era. Sonically, it is defined by Peter Stjärnvind's powerhouse drumming and the dual-guitar harmonies of Bohlin and Mellberg, which introduced a level of mournful musicality rarely seen in extreme metal at the time. The 2008 remaster corrected long-standing tracklist errors, finally presenting the band's vision of icy, melodic aggression in its intended form.
