Invisible Empire

Released in 2003, Invisible Empire is the sophomore effort from Reef the Lost Cauze and remains a foundational text of the Philadelphia underground hip-hop scene. Following his debut, this record solidified Reef's reputation for having one of the most aggressive and technically proficient deliveries in the genre. Produced largely during a period of high creative fertility in the North Philly circuit, the album eschews the 'bling' era aesthetics of the time in favor of a rugged, sample-heavy sound that draws from the lineage of Wu-Tang Clan and Jedi Mind Tricks. The record is notable for its thematic breadth, ranging from the workplace frustration of 'Monday (Fuck This Job)' to the cinematic intensity of 'Gladiator.'
