While Arkenstone would later become synonymous with epic fantasy worldbuilding and cinematic scores, Island is a more grounded, geographically-inspired collection of electronic vignettes. The album heavily utilizes the digital synthesis technology of the late 1980s, resulting in a 'hi-fi' sound characterized by sharp transients and lush, layered pads.
