To achieve authenticity, the band recorded different tracks in different studios using vintage technology appropriate for each 'era.' This resulted in a varied sonic profile ranging from the Hammond organ-drenched 70s rock to the compressed, high-gain sounds of the early 90s. Notably, 'Like a Bee to the Honey' features a song co-written by Paul Stanley and Jean Beauvoir, originally written in the 80s and never used by Kiss. The album also marks the debut of bassist Hiisi. Critics noted the album's ambitious scope and its successful recreation of historical production tropes, distinguishing it from the more uniform sound of their previous nine studio outings.
