Letanías capítulo I

Released in 2001, Letanías capítulo I is the debut full-length statement from Anabantha, a group that would become the most influential gothic metal act in Mexico. While the band had roots in the project Transmetal and Sentido Pésame, this album solidified their identity. Sonically, it sits at the intersection of 90s European gothic metal (think early Theatre of Tragedy or Tristania) and a uniquely Latin American sense of dramatic romanticism. The album is structured around the 'litany' concept, blending religious overtones with vampiric and existential themes. It is notable for its use of Spanish lyrics, which at the time was a significant departure from the English-dominated global metal scene.
