Local Valley

Local Valley marks José González's fourth studio album and his first in over six years, following 2015's Vestiges and Claws. Recorded at his home studio, Studio Koltrast in Sweden, the album is notable for being his most linguistically diverse, featuring songs in English, Spanish, and Swedish. Sonically, it represents a slight expansion of his minimalist palette, incorporating subtle drum machines and field recordings of nature while maintaining his signature nylon-string guitar foundation. The album includes a solo re-recording of 'Line of Fire,' originally by his band Junip. Lyrically, González moves toward secular humanism and evolutionary themes, influenced by his reading of science and philosophy. Critics noted that while the album maintains his established aesthetic, the songwriting is more expansive and fluid, with 'Visions' frequently cited as a career highlight.
