Loon

Released in 2015, Loon is a collaborative EP between Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen (of Bloodgroup), better known together as Kiasmos. While Arnalds is primarily recognized for his neo-classical compositions, this project sees him diving deeper into the world of modular synthesis and minimal techno. Recorded over five days, the EP serves as a bridge between his solo work and the more beat-driven Kiasmos project. The sonic palette is dominated by the Korg PS-3100 and various modular units, which provide a liquid, shimmering texture that contrasts with Arnalds' signature piano. Critically, it was praised for its ability to maintain emotional intimacy despite its electronic backbone. It stands as a pivotal moment in his catalog, proving his versatility as a producer and his ability to translate his 'sad boy' piano aesthetic into a digital, rhythmic framework without losing its soul.
