Los Lobos del este de Los Angeles

Released in 1978, 'Los Lobos del este de Los Angeles' is the self-released debut that predates the band's signing to Slash Records and their subsequent global fame. While the world would later know them as a powerhouse rock act, this album is a strictly acoustic affair, focusing on regional Mexican styles like Son Jarocho, Norteño, and Bolero. Recorded at a time when the band had moved away from playing Top 40 covers to explore their own heritage, the album serves as a foundational document of the Chicano Movement's musical expression. It features the core lineup of David Hidalgo, Louie Pérez, Cesar Rosas, and Conrad Lozano demonstrating immense technical proficiency on traditional instruments like the jarana, requinto, and accordion.
