Lost in Love

Released in 1980, Lost in Love served as the international breakthrough for the Australian duo Air Supply. After four albums that saw limited success outside their home country, this record redefined their sound and the soft rock genre at large. Produced by Robie Porter and Rick Chertoff, the album is characterized by its high production values and the distinct vocal chemistry between Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock. The title track, originally released in a different version in Australia, was reworked for this international release to include more prominent orchestral elements and a more polished pop sheen. This formula proved immensely successful, yielding three Top 10 hits in the United States and establishing the 'Air Supply sound': a blend of piano-led melodies, dramatic crescendos, and Hitchcock’s signature high-tenor delivery. Critically, it is viewed as a peak of the 'Lite Rock' era, praised for its melodic hooks while occasionally being noted for its unapologetic sentimentality.
