Love Is All You Love

Released in 2019, Love Is All You Love marks a turning point for Band of Skulls, following the departure of founding drummer Matt Hayward. Now operating as a duo, Russell Marsden and Emma Richardson collaborated with producer Richard X, known for his work in the pop and electronic spheres. This partnership resulted in a notable sonic departure from the band's garage-blues roots, incorporating drum machines, synthesizers, and a more compressed, 'loud' production style. The album was recorded at Miloco Studios in London and Nashville's Blackbird Studios, blending British indie sensibilities with American rock scale. Critically, the album was seen as a bold attempt to modernize their sound, moving toward a 'dance-rock' aesthetic similar to later-era Arctic Monkeys or Queens of the Stone Age. Despite the electronic flourishes, the core of the band - their massive guitar riffs and distinctive dual-vocal interplay - remains the focal point, ensuring the record feels like a natural, if adventurous, progression in their discography.
