Released in August 2015, M3LL155X represents a crucial evolutionary step for FKA twigs, showcasing a harder, more industrial edge than her debut album LP1. Produced in collaboration with Boots, the EP is named after Twigs' personal female energy, which she used to separate the creative process from her own persona. The five tracks are tightly integrated with a continuous 16-minute short film that Twigs directed herself, emphasizing the visual and physical nature of her music. Sonically, the EP is defined by its extreme contrast: delicate, high-register vocals are juxtaposed against aggressive, distorted sub-bass and shattered glitch-pop beats. It stands as one of her most cohesive and confrontational releases, bridging the gap between underground club culture and high-art pop.
