Marino

Released in late 2005, Marino serves as a companion piece to Caribou's breakthrough album 'The Milk of Human Kindness'. Dan Snaith, under his then-new Caribou moniker, used this EP to further explore the intersection of 1960s psychedelia and modern electronic production. The title track 'Marino' and 'The Barn' showcase Snaith's fascination with live-sounding, heavily processed drum kits that provide a 'krautrock' motorik feel while maintaining an IDM sensibility. 'Sunsesame' is particularly notable for its extreme lyrical minimalism, consisting almost entirely of the word 'Sun' repeated as a rhythmic element. This EP solidified Snaith's reputation for 'folktronica' - a term he helped define by blending acoustic-sounding textures with complex digital manipulation. Critically, it was seen as a successful refinement of his sound, moving away from the 'glitch' aesthetics of the early 2000s toward a more melodic, organic, and sun-drenched sonic palette.
